The boxer shorts trend is hitting a neighborhood park near you. You can thank the larger no-pants trend for that. It’s always fun to be early on a fashion trend before it blows up. Not that there’s a prize for winning secret contests like these, and my friends may or may not even have noticed, but last summer, all summer, I was wearing boxers all across Brooklyn. I wore them with sandals and a sports bra, I wore them under a trench coat with loafers. I felt like a teenage boy summering in an Italian coastal village. But the thing is, to be early on a trend, you don’t need to be first, you just need to be earlier than everyone you know. And babe, there’s still time.

The boxer short trend is not just about boxer shorts. It’s part of a larger trend where people are just wearing their drawers out. I talked to celeb stylists Chloe and Chenelle Delgadillo for a story about Coachella, and they think festivals will be filled with girls wearing bloomers, boxers, and exposed underwear in general, whether that be exposed above the waist of your jeans or full-on out.

Celebs like Sydney Sweeney, Kristen Stewart, Katy Perry, and more have been wearing exposed underwear of some kind or another this spring. If you need a sign that boxers are in bloom, there are plenty. Here are some of my faves.

Kristen Stewart attends the CHANEL and Charles Finch Annual Pre-Oscar Dinner at The Polo Lounge at The Beverly Hills Hotel on March 09, 2024 in Beverly Hills, California.
